Reverse mortgage

My father and mother got a reverse mortgage on there home. Recently, my father passed away and my mother is in a nursing home. How long does she have to pay the loan back, since no one is living in the home?

As the reverse mortgage is also in your mother's name, she should inform the lender about her medical problem. She should inform them that she is in a nursing home now. The lender will definitely give her some time to pay off the reverse mortgage debts. If she intends to not return to that home, then she can surrender the property to the lender and they can foreclose it to recover their debts.

As far as I know, you get 10-12 months time within which you will have to pay off the reverse mortgage dues. However, your mother can have a word with her reverse mortgage lender and he will better assist her in this regard.
