My partner of 16 years has asked me for a divorce. (same sex) In January 0f 2000 we entered into a Domestic Partnership with the state of California. We had bought a house in 1997, however, my name did not go on title at the time. My partner had sold a house in another city and she put most of the downpayment on this house. I did put a part of the downpayment, this was never noted not formally.
In 2002 my partner put my name on the deed. Now I keep hearing including from my partner that I do not have any right to this house. We had a child (my partner is the birth Mom) I have raised this child who is now 11 year of age. This was the agreement we made because my partner did not feel she would be able to do the parenting as well as I. I gave up any opportunity to keep working and making my working on my career, I did work part time. On and on it goes...Now, I may be losing all interest in the house? I have only worked part time during the last 5 years for extra cash to help with our son.
