This is for California, My mother added my bother as joint tenant to her property. She now wants my brother off the grant deed as joint tenant. he is willing to remove himself. I will do the leg work for him, will he need to quit claim his part back to her, or do you need another grant deed?. thank you.

It is not mandatory for your brother to transfer his property through a grant deed. Your brother can use a quitclaim deed in order to transfer his share of the property to your mother.
