I live in Orange County CA and I am looking into Sec8. I am a soon to be divorced mother of two. I was a stay at home mom, so I havent worked in 3 years. I am starting nursing school in Sept. Do I need to be employed to qualify for sec8??

Hi Lindsay,

Except in the case of elderly and disabled families, section 8 requires you to be currently employed on a full-time basis. You have to be continuously employed on a full-time basis for at least 1 year before you start getting the homeownership assistance. So in your case, it would be difficult for you to qualify for section 8.

Thanks

Hi REGINALD!

Welcome to forums!

You'll have to contact the Public Housing Authority of your area in order to know more about Section 8. You can check out the above link given by James Hogg in his post to know more about Public Housing Authorities.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.

Hi regina!

Welcome to forums!

I'm afraid, you won't be able to apply for Section 8 online. You'll have to contact the PHA for Section 8 application.

I am currently on section 8 however when I went into the office to recertify they informed me that they are now implementing this program where they will check your employment with the department of labor, well I havent reported my income changes, mostly because even with the assistance I am still FAR into the hole, will they verify my employment with DOL or do you think they are calling my bluff?

Hi!

Welcome to forums!

To kbaby,

If the authorities have told you about the income verification from Department of Labor, then there are chances that they would go for it.

To Connie,

It is the section 8 program which will help you in getting housing facility at a lower rate. You will have to apply with them. If you want alternatives, you can contact the Public Housing Authority of your area and check out if they can help you in this regard.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.
