Can I defer gain from stocks which were sold in 2007, and claim it in 2008?

Hi suefen_tsai,

Welcome to the forum.

Do you want capital gain tax deferral from stocks? I think it is possible but you should contact with a tax advisor

Best of luck,
Larry

Welcome suefen,

You can defer capital gain tax through…..

1. Say you have sold the stocks and profit from there 20,000 dollars but you have sold a property where have lost 20,000 dollar. Thus you need not to pay capital gain tax on it.

2. You can get capital tax exemption for up to 250,000 dollars for single filers and $500,000 for married joint filers.

You can check out the capital tax exemption

For further details you should contact with a tax advisor as Larry has also mentioned it.
