I began paying child support for my daughter in 2008. I had various other negative items on my credit report. When I pulled my credit about few weeks ago and I was pleasantly surprised to see that the Office of the Attorney General has reported my child support payments on my credit history. Wow that was free positive history! Do any other states do this?

Hi Will,

Congratulations to you for the positive reporting of the child support!! Smile

Every state has its own rules regarding reporting of child support. In most states, child support is reported to credit bureaus once you miss your child support payments. There are others who only report if your child support is via income deduction. However, you should note that whether or not it's a positive reporting, it lowers your available income for further consumer credit debt.

One of my friends, who lives in AZ, has been paying child support since 2008. However, as far as I know, his child support payment is not reported to his credit report.

Take care
