My dad wants to own a new apartment and so I’m just trying to help him with his credit. When I checked his credit report, I found 2 tax liens that were satisfied back in 2008 and 2009 but they are showing up as paid judgments! Why have they changed the status of the account?

Hi Travis,

The tax lien was placed on the property after a lawsuit had been filed. When your father paid off the tax lien, he has actually paid off the judgment. As a result, I think, his credit report mentions the account as "paid judgments".

Thanks,

Jerry

Negative items show up on a credit report for up to 7yrs...whether paid or unpaid

Since he paid the tax liens...they will be remove from when he first went delinquent or when they first reported it
