Hi there… A CA has been calling my relatives regarding one of my debts. They didn't say they were debt collectors, but my relatives were able to guess it. I don't want my family to be bothered by them. How can I stop this mess?

Hi Guest,

As per the FDCPA, the collection agency (CA) wont be able to call any 3rd party regarding your debts more than once. So, if the CA is harassing your relatives, then that will be considered as illegal. You can ask them to not contact your relatives any further. You should ask them to validate your debt in writing. In case, they are unable to validate your debt, you can send them a cease and desist letter and ask them to stop any further communication with you or your relatives.

Thanks,

Jerry

Hi Guest,

I agree with what Jerry has suggested. The CA can't call any person other than the borrower more than once for the payments. You can take legal actions against the CA for violating the FDCPA rules and guidelines. You can contact an attorney and he will further guide you in this regard.

Thanks
