Hello everyone. I have 2 credit cards that were opened in my name. Let me mention that I got divorced 3 years ago and the decree says that my ex will pay for them. However, she hadn't made any payments till date. And now the cards has been charged off and sent to collections. What options do I have to resolve this situation and get them off my credit report?

Unless the cards are paid off, you won't be able to get rid of the debt. Moreover, like any other negative item, the charged off accounts will also remain in your credit report for the next 7 years. However, as your divorce decree states that your ex needs to pay off the loan, it will be better if you could take legal actions against her so that she pays off the debts.

The divorce decree doesn't trump the fact that you're still the account holder. Your contract with the credit issuer is what ultimately makes you legally responsible for the debt; however, you can certainly hire a lawyer and go after your Ex for damages.
