cost of filing bankruptcy

Due to some unavoidable problems, I am planning to file bankruptcy. Can anyone tell me about the cost of filing bankruptcy?

Hi Lew,

I feel worried to know of your problem. I hope you to come out of it soon.

The cost of filing bankruptcy under chapter 7 is $200. For chapter 13 the bankruptcy cost is $185.

The cost is same incase of single person or married couple. If you are unable to pay the fee at a time, you may be allowed to pay it in installments by the court.

In addition to that if you hire an attorney for the purpose, then you have to pay the attorney fees.

In chapter 13 bankrutcy case how much will the attorney charge?

Hi Lew,

As chapter 13 cases are more complicated, here the legal fees charged by the attorney may be a little higher.

Majority of the attorney may allow to make a down payment of less than $1000, in addition to the filing fee, to prepare and file the case. The balance may be paid as per chapter 13 plan over some months.
