There is an automatic debit that came out of my account. SJM is a company that i dont know about. I did not authorize any company to withdrawal money out of my account on a non payday. The number that you have listed for them i called. This is the closest i've been in finding out who this company is. They are closed on the weekends but i will call back on Monday. What should i do about this

Hi Justin,

Welcome to the forums.

I really feel for you. Whatever has happened is injustice and believe me, this is what people complain about most often. There are companies out there in the market who are only up to cheating people for money. Something needs to be done.

I shall suggest that you call up the company people on Monday and find out what they have to say. If they don't admit their mistake then you should consult a lawyer and take some legal action. It's people like you who need to raise your voices and help each other in fighting against such illegal practices.

God Bless you.

For MortgageFit,
Samantha.

The first thing you should do is ask your bank to stop that automatic transfer.

Call 866-270-2270 and talk to Nicki at extension 109...this place is a rip off. I have a loan and didn't know that the finance charge is $90 every two weeks! I am paying it off in full. That is ridiculous!

Hi,

I can understand your frustration. Many of us are facing the same problem with this company.

They come after you initially and when you are in trouble or need to contact them regarding an inquiry, they are never available. Can you ask the bank to stop an automatic transfer from your account?

I guess that will help you to catch them as they will definitely come to you if the payment is stopped.

I just got the phone with one of the reps trying to get my money back from the company. I had a loan with them last year that I paid off. Last week I had a debit from my account for $562 from them. Luckily I had my documentation to show where I had paid because they were saying they never got a payment from me. Well I could only find documentation for two of the payments so they gave me back all of the money except for the one payment. However I accumulated over $200 in bank fees because of that transaction and I have been fighting with them since last week to reimburse me. Unfortuanately there is nothing that the bank can do because if you gave the merchant your account information at anytime they can't stop the transaction. Also, like in my case, if they debit an errouneous amount the bank can't refund it. They are definitely con artists and I wouldn't advice anyone to do business with them. Luckily I still had documentation from last year in july because had i not they would have just taken all of my money.

Hi SK

I really want to say thanks to you.

Many people will learn from your experience and suggestion. I really appreciate your effort, and you are absolutely right this company is not doing justice with the common people and I am sure onday they will have to pay for it.

You are really lucky that you got the documents with you with the basis of which at least you can fight against them.

Doing business with them is a horrible decision and I don't know how many more of us are still within their trap.

The only way I was able to get out the trap (the first time) with them was to change my direct deposit of my paycheck to another bank. I know that sounds drastic but at the time I had the loan it was hard to pay them off especially with the fees. So I figured I would pay $35 to my bank and then just deal with the company. I could never get a live person to talk to but once they couldn't do the draft a representative e-mailed me and offered me a settlement on the account. That way I was able to pay them through Paypal and not have them debit my account. That's why I had proof of my payments. Dominic is the collections manager and his extension is 105.

PostPosted: Tue Jun 06, 2006 4:21 pm    Post subject: Info from bank

I contacted my bank about getting a stop payment order for money SJM was taking from my account. They set up the stop payment and they also advised me to call and get a name of someone at SJM and then fax a note that states I am revoking my authorization for SJM to debit my account. According to the bank folk, the stop payment is only good for the amount that you list on it, so if they change that by even a cent, the debit will go through. However, if you send notice to withdraw your authorization for the debit, and they still try (even for a different amount) then they are committing a crime and can be prosecuted by the bank. Seems that these companies take the bank filing charges against them a bit more seriously than just Joe Citizen filing charges.
Hang on to the fax receipt of you choose to do this, just in case the bank needs it.

That was good information. At least that is a relief to know that somehow we can stop them.

Thx

I was contacted by United Federal and advised I had to pay $800.00 for a loan I took out in November for $300. I had tried to contact SJM to advise I had another bank account and they did not respond to me to find out the information. I have asked them to fax me the information about why I had to pay an extra $500.00 and I received no answer. I advised them if I did not receive the paperwork I would contact a lawyer and sue them.

Hi Dorothy,

I can understand the reason for your disturbance. Many of us have at times faced similar problems with them.

It was a good decision to write that bold letter. In fact if you don't get any replies further you must contact an attorney and get a way to sue them. Keep all your documents ready with you.

Do let us know the proceedings and the result. This will help all of us to find a way in dealing with them.
