Ok I understand the part about the 3 year time frame on owning a home in order to get the 8000 credit

we sold a home over 3 years ago and then built a metal building to stay in and was then going to build a new house well we have now started the process of buying a older home with more land, so snice we never built the house and lived in a metal building which the loan showed as a installment loan for land and barn but we homesteaded it snice we were living in it (had built a living area in it ) would we still get the credit?
I plan on checking with a tax addv. but wanted to ask here also
oh and we never claimed anything on our tax's with the irs when filling
thanks

If you did not have a property in your name for the last 3 years, then you would be able to claim the tax credit if you buy a property now. If there has been a property in your name, then you would not be considered eligible for it.
