New Tax Credit

My sister wants to buy a home and I would be co-signing with her. She hasn't bought a home before and I have. If I co-sign with her, can she still qualify for the new tax credit?
confused,

No !!

You won't get the benefit.

Hi confused,

I think she should be able to get the $8k tax credit. After all, she is purchasing the house, not you. By co-signing on the loan, you are merely helping her to qualify for the loan. so, if she has not owned a house for the past 3 years and she intends to use this property as her primary residence, she should qualify for the tax credit. However, she will have to file a separate tax return.
