Living in an abandoned house + little land around it for around 4 years now.

I've paid taxes on it for the past 3 years. Can this place somehow become mine, or do I need to wait an additional 4 years to qualify for 7 years?

Located in Florida. Very Happy

Hi,

As far as I'm aware of, you are required to occupy the property for at least 7 years in Florida to claim adverse possession rights. If you have already used the property for 4 years, you will have to occupy it for a minimum of 3 more years to claim ownership rights to the house. But claiming adverse possession rights will not be easy. You will have to provide the judge with enough evidence to establish your claim. A consultation with a real estate attorney in this situation is a must for you.
