How can we avoid paying transfer tax in Florida when doing a quit claim deed?...My Dad and I are both on the deed of a very expensive home with a very high mortgage. I do not want anything to do with this house. I want to be taken off the deed. However, there is a large tax that needs to be paid to Florida Dept. of Revenue. How can this be avoided?

Hi tlp!

Welcome to forums!

You cannot avoid paying the taxes to the Florida department of revenue. You will have to pay them off or else they may place lien on your property. I would suggest you to contact them and check out if the Florida Dept. of Revenue can offer you a payment plan to pay off the debts.

Feel free to ask if you have further queries.
