my main residence is in Canada can i get a mortgage in fl
how do i go about it

Welcome to forums!

You will be able to get a mortgage in Florida if you have a credit history in USA. You should meet the required credit score standards and have a stable financial situation in order to qualify for the loan. Unless you meet the required criteria of the lender, you won't be able to get a mortgage. I would suggest you to contact the local lenders and apply for a mortgage. They will go through your situation and let you know whether or not you would get a mortgage.
