Hi Gibbsm,

Welcome again to the forum.

Actually there aren't any such Government assistance loans/grants that will help you to prevent foreclosure. You can get help from the HUD, as said by Ryan. But it does not help with any foreclosure prevention assistance. It will just give you advice.

ACORN Housing is another organization who works like the HUD. They work with mortgage lenders and provide counseling program to homeowners who are on the verge of foreclosure. To know more on How acorn can help you if you are behind on payments, please refer to http://acornhousing.org/TEXT/fap8.php

Limited grants ($5,000) are available starting in first quarter of each calendar year from the flubs via their members for purchase of a home. Money is "used up" now but keep your ears tuned in next year. Generally good deal but income limitations and 5 years OO required or prorata payback of grant.

I know about one such program it is called Neighborhood Housing Services of Cleveland Foreclosure-Prevention Loan Program ( http://www.nw2.org/WinningStrategies/display.asp?strategy=1052&offset= 4 )

It provides foreclosure prevention loan to qualified delinquent borrowers so that they can bring their loan current. It is operational in Cleveland. Which state are you in?

If you are in Pennsylvania, then one option is Homeowners' Emergency Mortgage Assistance Program (HEMAP)

Detailed information can be availed from - http://www.phfa.org/consumers/homeowners/hemap.aspx

This loan program helps to protect borrowers who are unable to make the payments and are facing foreclosure.

Hi Darla,

There are certain govt. grants that are available, but they are few in number and not everyone of them is eligible for them. There are various other ways to avoid foreclosure like a loan modification, a short sale and a deed in lieu of foreclosure. Have you tried any of these options? What exactly is your situation? Can you explain it so I can provide you with some suggestion on how you can avoid the foreclosure?

Thanks,

Jerry
