I would like to have my mother as a no-occupant co-signer. However, we have question; she has Medicaid from DSHS, is being co-signer will affect her benefits, like DSHS will concider this like an investment? Also she lives in the housing, and could this be affected too ?

Hi Guest,

I don't think being a co-signer will affect your mother's Medicaid eligibility. As far as I know, reverse mortgages do affect the Medicaid eligibility as it considered to be the borrower's income. Unlike a reverse mortgage, a home mortgage loan does not affect the borrower's income. Thus, if someone co-signs on a home loan, it is not supposed to affect his/her Medicaid benefits.
