My husband died in Sept 08, The mortgage was in his name for interest rate purposes, I am on the deed. and executrix, sole heir...Do I have to get a new mortgage in order to claim the interest starting in 2009? What happens to the home equity line?

Hi vincenttinamom,

Welcome to the forums.

I think you need to talk to the lender right now. Perhaps he'll suggest a refinance of the existing mortgage, so that you can have your name in it. Only then you can claim the interest in the year 2009.

Good luck
