My friends father passed away, and was given the home that is free & clear of liens. He was told to 'gift the home' to someone - how can this be done? And, what are the tax problems with this? And, can a warranty deed be prepared w/o an attorney? This issue is in the state of Illinois.

Hi,

It is absolutely up to you to gift your home to someone. Regarding the tax issue, tax problems can be solved by transferring the tax statements in the name of the person who is currently the owner and a warranty deed can be prepared without an attorney. I would suggest you to consult with a lawyer before taking any step.
