My mother passed away last week, she had me write up a statement of sorts signing her house over to me and my sister. Is that paper as long as it's notarized going to work ok in the house being put in our names.

You need to contact a real estate attorney and show him the paper. The attorney will go through it let you know whether or not it would be accepted as title to the property.
