FICO score and Student status

My husband's FICO is 612, he doesn't have any negative accounts, he hasn't worked for 3 yrs because he is a student. Anways, he graduates (Law school) this Month. Will his score raise once he gets a job?

We hope to buy a house in 2010.

No. The score reflects somebody's ability to consistently pay their debts on time. Want to increase his score? Get a couple credit cards, charge small amounts on them, and make the monthly payments on time.

if he's able to obtain credit, as suggested by raymond, right away, that'd be beneficial.

He should also look at his credit card balances. They should be less than half of the credit limit. If that is not the case, then call the credit card companies and ask them to raise your limits.
