I have a question. I just signed a one year lease and just found out that the house I am renting is in foreclosure and will be auctioned off this week! Is there anything I can do? What do I need to do?? Please help

Hi tracey,

You should contact the landlord and ask him to pay you back the money which you've paid him/her initially. You should also contact an attorney and check out if you can take any legal actions against the landlord for lying to you.

I think if you didn't know about the foreclosure of the house that you have taken on rental basis or you have not told about it. Then you should demand the refund of the security deposit for it and demand damages that you have sustained of moving from one place to another.

Obtaining your money back will be quite a stretch. You can certainly seek it, but since the homeowner couldn't pay his/her mortgage to begin with, it's likely that he/she also lacks the funds to pay you back for any sum you seek. You would need to file a lawsuit in order to get your funds back, and for that you'll need to find a lawyer unless the sum you feel is owed to you falls within Small Claims Court guidelines, in which case you can represent yourself.

Color me skeptical.
