Where do you live? It depends on the area. Here in Kentucky where I live many counties still make you go and look it up in a record room somewhere. That is why so many mistakes are made on a daily basis.

A friend of mine just lost 4+ 30 year old trees out of his yard due to an easment mistake that the city made. They thought they had an easment, and they did, just not where they thought it was. In the process they ripped out several very old and expensive trees. He is going to have to battle them in court now.
