In 2001 I bought a townhouse in Ft Lauderdale, Florida as part of a Planned Urban Development. With only three units in the building, we have a Townhouse Association with three members. The building has not been painted in over 10 years and there are obvious signs of deterioration. We haven't had a termite inspection in over two years. Each unit has skylights that were damaged by Hurricane Wilma in 2005. I've replaced windows in my unit. My skylights are loose and leaking. Windows in the other two units are held together with tape while others are bolted shut. My unit is farthest from the street and all the safety lights along the sidewalk are broken, some with exposed wiring. Being a single female living alone, I'm concerned for my security. Here's the cause of all the heartache. A two-thirds majority (two votes) is needed for the association to act on any of these issues. The other two owners don't want to spend any money to keep up their units. They act in lockstep against me. Their refusal is affecting the safety, security, and value of my property. Do I have any options to force them to take care of their property?

Welcome Jean,

I suppose you'll have to appeal to your Homeowners Association so that they consider your situation and take quick action.
