in the algorithms that underwriters use to approve/pre-approve a borrower, how important is how long the borrower has worked at company x? I'm the process of looking to move on professionally but I'm not sure it would be worth the trouble if this hinders getting a mortgage. My wife is also employed however makes 50% less than I do. I suspect there is a tipping point. Please advise. Thanks.

Hi mcnamarabriant!

Welcome to forums!

The underwriters will take into account at least 2 years of employment history before approving you for a mortgage.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.

If you change from one W2 paid job to the next W2 paid job, the base salary for the new job will be ok as soon as you get your first pay check from the new job.
You may apply for the mortgage while at the old job, show the loan officer a job offer letter with salary for the new job, the mortgage will be processed, just can not close until you get the first pay check from the new job.
