My Dad has a life estate in which my sister in law's name is on the deed. My brother passed and when my Dad did the life estate I did not want my name on the deed as my daughter was applying for financial aid for college. My brother and my sister in law with whom I have been friends with since childhood, know the house is half mine. To make it legal, how does my Dad get my name added to the deed.

Hi JoAnn,

Your dad will have to sign a quitclaim deed in order to add your name to the property deed. Your dad can even draft a will mentioning you as one of the beneficiaries of the will.

Thanks
