Good Evening Rinkydink and welcome to Mortgagefit!
You will first need to win a judgement in court before attempting to put a lien on a person's property. This also may vary per state, and I would suggest that you speak to an attorney concerning State laws.
I think you will be able to place a lien on the property owned by someone who owes you a large sum of money. However, as banker has said, you will have to win a judgment for this.
Feel free to ask if you have further queries.

my father passed away and there are 4 of us his property was paid off and there was no will but one of my sisters has moved in and is saying it is hers. I want to know if i and my brother can put a lein on property for our part? if so what can i do. I can't afford a lawyer
As there is no will which states that your sister will own the property after your father's death, then she cannot claim the property to be hers. In my opinion, you and your siblings should first consult an attorney and then try to take steps which will help you and your siblings to get the share of the property.
Thanks

You'll have to pay off the lien and get a lien release certificate from the lien holder. This will help you in removing the lien from your property. _________________ Procrastination is the enemy of your financial sucess
jumpout, i don't think you received the answer you're looking for.
if you know the individual who filed the lien, or someone who may know the person, that might help you in your search. also, you can check with the recording office to find out who may have signed the document that represents the lien, then contact any of those people who may lead you to the person you're seeking. it can be difficult, no question. ultimately, you may be forced to place an ad in a local paper in your attempt to locate that person.
you can get legal advice in this matter, and that would be most beneficial to you. _________________ George M. Akerley
