My son is trying to buy his first home. He was denied a mortgage due to his student loans. He is still in school, he has his associate's degree, going for his bachelor's degree, so he is not yet paying on his loans. Is there anything he can do with his student loans, or some sort of mortgage program he can try, to get around this?

Hi atkinsontheresa!

Welcome to forums!

As there is a loan in the name of your son which he hasn't even started paying off, it will be difficult for him to qualify for a mortgage. However, if you co-sign for him, then there are chances that he might qualify for the loan. You and your son should have a word with the lender in this regard.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.
