is a notice of federal tax lien a legal lien if a court order is not attached?
Hi,

I think that the notice of Federal tax lien is a legal one even if the court order is not attached. This is because it is related to the Federal Government.

Thanks,

Sara.

Hi Guest,

A tax lien is attached to a property when the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) intends to claim the property legally as security for the payment of tax debt.

The tax lien is filed by the IRS only after the homeowner denies paying down the debt within 10 days of notifying him about the lien. By filing the lien, the IRS informs the creditors that it has a claim against the existing property including any property the homeowner acquires after the lien is filed. The notice of the lien is used by the courts to assign priority to the debts against the house in case of bankruptcy proceeding or sale of property.

Know more on tax lien at http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=108339,00.html#Notice .

Thanks
