We are due to close on a loan in a few weeks. My husband has been employed by the same school district for 6 years, but in April of every year, he gets a lay-off notice for the next school year, only to be recalled within a few weeks. This notice may be coming again this year, right around the time we are supposed to close on our house. My question is, when they call to do the verbal employment verification, he would still be an employee, still working, but would they find out if he had received a lay-off notice for the next school year? My father-in-law, a former HR guy said they can only ask if you're currently employed. Is this true?

Hi Dave,

Your concern is right...But most of the companies (lenders) only make sure that you have full time employment history and you are currently employed..Nobody is gonna ask you whether you will remain employed or not in coming future...

As far as lay off is concerned even the person who is acting as loan manager is also not sure about his fate whether he is going to continue with the firm or will be laid off in coming future.

So do not worry and just face the coming approval of the loan.
