Hi, I bought a property, a Condo with my boyfriend. We are both paying equally on it, but I want to know if something were to happen to him, would the property still belong to me and would I still be able to pay on it and own it?
I just want to feel safe in putting my 50% into this.

Thank you for any help with this concern.

Hi lh,

If your name is mentioned on the property deed along with your boyfriend, then you will be able to claim ownership in that property even if something happens to him. Whether or not your name is mentioned on the mortgage deed won't affect your ownership of the property.

Thanks

You want to make sure your title is with some sort of "right of survivorship" once the other party dies, the property would go to probate and split between heirs. If you have right of survorship, then the person who dies, their interest in the home transfers to you exclusively...Look over your title and vesting. You want to have the joint tenant with right of survivorship, unless you have it set another way you agreed upon...Good luck

I agree.. w/ jameshogg ... You still connected to him. What I want you to do is have an attorney to fix your problem. And that is best way! GOOD-LUCK!
