My husband and I wish to gift our nephew $12,000. to help him with his purchase of a new home. He is going FHA. We have been told this can only be done by relatives but don't know if we qualify. That they thought only parents and other siblings could do this. Is this true or who can gift the $12,000?

There will be "NO REPAYMENT". His mother helped us when we were young and we want to repay her kindness by helping her son.

Anyone know the correct answer?
