Hello,

Are Realtor Rebates legal? I have heard about this before but was told by our last realtor that they are illegal. That was 4 yrs ago and I have seen a lot of websites offering this rebate, but was unsure as to what to do.

If they are legal then I want to take advantage of this, only thing is, how do I approach the Realtor we are working with now about it?

Can someone give me some advice please?

Yes, they are 100% legal. What you need to do is search for a few real estate companies in your area on line that offer Buyer's Rebate. You will find many realtors willing to give you this rebate if you live in a state that allows it. I think there are only and hand full of states that still don't allow this savings.

Don't let anyone or any Realtor try to tell you that you somehow will sacrifice the quality of service because the realtors who paticipate in this program are every bit as experienced and capable as the ones who charge full price.

Why the real estate industry has not been required to lower that 6% commission is amazing. those rediculious commissions is partly to blame and what fueled the housing crisis in America!

Anyone agree?

Yes, and they were legal when that Realtor told you that 4 years ago. I'd avoid that Realtor if I were you - they're either lying or don't know the laws. Rebates from Loan Officers are legal too. We're all allowed to credit the consumer up to 100% of our commission, but we're not allowed to rebate each other a dime.

You probably think commissions are high because you have never paid overhead expenses.. When I became a owner broker and office owner I learned it's not possible to discount and stay afloat It's easy when your the realtor and your cut you take it home minus gas and a cell phone..
