My wife bought the house when we were engaged. She put me on the deed. Now we are separated and she is asking if I would refinance, putting my name on the mortage. Is there any benefit to me to do this? Though I am on the deed, not the mortgage, am I entitled to proceeds from house sale? Thank you,

as an owner, you would definitely benefit in terms of a split of any profit made. as a borrower, you are responsible for payments on the mortgage. i gather the two of you are not selling the home at this time. _________________ George M. Akerley

Hi George, thanks for the reply. It's looking like it may come to that, and I just don't know if I should remain on the deed only or refinance with my name on mortgage, but it looks like you say I would benefit from sale, yet not be responsible for payments should I only remain on deed.
I wasn't sure as it is considered a "short term marriage" in Mass.
Thank you again,
