hello my mother is wanting to add me to her home so that there is no question about the house in the event of her death. i do not live there my 2 brothers live there with her. they are well into there 50's. i am on disabilty and have 3 children of my own. so how do we go about adding my name to the deed and with that cost us money? will we need a lawyer? will this affect my disablity? will i be included in her property taxes? we live in nebraska. how do we word these papers.

Hi Anita,

You can ask your mother to sign a quitclaim deed or a warranty deed in order to add your name to the property. You or your mother can contact a real estate attorney and take his assistance in getting the deed drafted. If your name is included in the property tax documents, then you will be liable for paying property taxes.

Thanks

The responsible for keeping the property is as good a condition as when they take possession. This means keeping up the insurance, maintenance, and property taxes.
