Hi -

My now ex-boyfriend and I purchased a house in Feb of this year. He moved out in October and I want to change the locks and "sever" his ties to the house. I know I can't refinance the house on my own, and was told a Quit Claim Deed was the way to go.

Is this correct? How can I position this option to him? I am trying to move on, but it's hard having this bond between us. He's not paying on the house and hasn't for the last couple of months.

We live in NV.

Hi binalujan,

If you want to remove your ex-boyfriend from the property deed, then you'll have to ask him to sign a quit claim deed in your favor. Once he signs the deed, he won't remain the co-owner of the property anymore. After he fills out the deed, you'll have to notarize and record the at the county recorder's office where your property is located. If you do not want to deal with him, then you can contact a lawyer and he will help you in dealing with your ex-boyfriend.
