My partner received settlement. We chose Joint Tenancy, Right of Survivorship. Bank gives no advice, and when we asked upon opening account, they said only that the other would receive upon death. Nothing to do. Now, not so. My Partner passed away. They want me to get a tax waiver, State Of NJ. I don't know where to get a tax waiver. There is no real property. They say inheritance. No inheritance. My funds. Not theirs. Another institution had me fill out L-8 Form. This institution tells me no. Not eligible to fill out L-8. Must have a registered Civil Union/Domestic Partnership document.
The county states that there was a fire, and they don't have, to get from state, but that they may not find them either. So, they say get tax waiver, but I don't know what, or where, or how, or who?
We were/are over 65, and they say that I am not a Class "A" Beneficiary, so I can't have my funds, and they keep saying inherit. How can either of us inherit? It is too, too confusing, and hoping someone understands and can help.
What kind of tax is it? Why does one have to pay an inheritance tax on not an inheritance, if you are joint tenants, why aren't you a class "A" beneficiary just by the joint tenancy?
Thank you

If you have owned the property with your husband as joint tenancy with right of survivorship, then you become the owner of the property after his death. I would suggest you to get in touch with an attorney and take his opinion in this matter. He will be the best person to help you in this matter. _________________ Procrastination is the enemy of your financial success
