Fees on some mortgages increased by Freddie Mac

Shared by Jerry on Sat Jan 31, 2009 3:25 am

Freddie Mac has increased its fees which will raise the costs of borrowing for some home mortgage borrowers. The mortgages which will be affected by the higher fees include finance for condominiums, loans which help borrowers to pay interest only in the initial years, refinance which allows the borrowers to cash out their home equity as well as those loans which are offered to borrowers with low credit scores and down payments.

This reminds me of a similar step taken by Fannie Mae in December when it increased its fees. I believe that if rates are increased in such a way by the two government-backed mortgage investors, then it will reduce the chances of home buying or refinancing for the borrowers. In the present market situation, the market needs a boost up so that it can revive. Raising the fees will not help in stimulating the market.
