FTC plans to take new steps to fight mortgage fraud

Shared by Niicss on Thu Feb 11, 2010 4:11 am

In order to fight mortgage fraud, the Federal Trade Commission plans to ban upfront fees charged by the loan modification servicing companies and foreclosure rescue service companies.

As per the new rule proposed by FTC, these companies would get paid only after they provide proper services to the consumers. They will have to inform the consumers about the total amount they will have to pay. They should also mention and that there is no guarantee that the lender will agree to modify the loan.

This is indeed a great step taken by FTC to fight mortgage fraud. The new rule will also forbid the mortgage modification companies from telling consumers to stop contacting their lenders. This will also prohibit them from misleading the borrowers about getting the rates that they expect and the time taken to complete the process.
