Economists and industry experts worldwide fear that there could be a severe economic damage with the spreading of Swine Flu. All the major countries have been affected by the H1N1 virus and people are anticipating that the economic damage could be worse than that of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). Things are proving to be more challenging because the industry is already going through a downturn. The absence of a quarter of the workforce could cost the world economy dearly. The travel and tourism industry has been badly hit due to the spreading of the flu. It has been noticed that due to the swine flu, there has been a drop in the rate of consumption as people are avoiding shopping malls and departmental stores in fear of getting infected with the disease. Also, governments in certain countries have decided to keep the schools and offices closed till further notice in order to avoid further spreading of the disease.
