Unclaimed refunds of 1.3 billion

Shared by Niicss on Sat Mar 13, 2010 4:28 am

If you haven't filed your tax returns in 2006 and did not receive your refunds, you can claim it now. In a recent report, it has been found that in the year 2006, around 1.4 million people did not filed their tax returns, even though they were to receive their due refunds. As a result, IRS has $1.3 billion worth of refunds from that tax year. Taxpayers can now apply and get their old refund checks. The refund checks could be as high as $800 for some taxpayers. However, the claim should be made via 2006 Form 1040 by April 15.

1.3 billion unclaimed refunds! That's a huge sum. As most of the people are going through a hard time as far as finances are concerned, I'm sure this would be a welcome relief to many who haven't claimed their refunds. I guess, unclaimed refunds are a common thing as some people don't file a return because they don't owe taxes. However, if they do not submit the documents, they won't be able to claim the refunds.

However, taxpayers should hurry up if they want to claim these refunds. After April 15th, the refunds would go to Uncle Sam's pocket.
