My mother is taking out a home equity loan. My name will also be on the loan. We would like to add my name to the deed. The original lender was going to do this as part of the aplication process but was charging way to much interest. FNB approved us for a much lower rate but does not handle quit claims etc. Do we need to do a quit claim before the loan is finalized, or doesn't it matter since my name will already be on te mortgage. Mahoning County Recorder (Ohio) could not answer the question.

Hi mborsh!

Welcome to forums!

You can add your name to the property prior to the mortgage closing. You can ask your mother to sign a quit claim deed and add your name to the property. She can contact an attorney and he will help her in drafting the deed and adding your name to the property.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.
