Did you ask the lender about the details of the write down? Even I haven't heard of the write down. You need to speak to the lender and clarify the whole issue. As a borrower, you've the right to ask about the details of write down. Check out if your lender has taken part in Home Affordable modification program as started by the Obama government. If he has taken part in the program, then he has to offer you a loan modification.
