I was just informed by my mortgage company's customer service rep that if I make my payment online tomorrow (and it is credited online tomorrow) that it will not appear as interest paid for 2010. Is this because the payment due date is not until 1/1/2011??

Seems strange, right?

THANK YOU!!

Yes, it seems quite strange to me, also. Customer service reps occasionally have the habit of making off-the-cuff remarks, and since your payment would be for the January due date, that person's apparent presumption is that it wouldn't be counted.

If you speak with a different person, you'll likely get a different answer, and if you get a third one on the phone, you'll probably get an "I dunno."

If you're capable of making that payment tomorrow, you may as well. The worst thing that can happen is that they won't credit the interest as paid in 2010 and you'll have a smaller deduction.
