Which comes first Home remodification or credit card bankruptcy?

Posted on: 18th Jun, 2009 09:44 pm
Last year I finally started receiving disability, unfortunately my husband and I had to use our credit cards for a lot of our living expenses. We thought we had things under control but then this recession hit and my husband's work plant shut down temporarily in December and then reduced his work hours from 60 to 32 hours a week, then they decided only work 3 weeks of every month. I tried to contact our bank In December and ask for a remodification. Long story short, they denied us due to lack of income, mainly because of our credit card payments. We are now trying it again as if we are not paying the credit cards. It is just dragging out forever. My question is should we go ahead with the bankruptcy on the credit cards or should we wait to find out if we can get a remodification on the home? I was afraid that the bankruptcy would somehow hinder us getting help with out house but on the other hand, if we have to walk away from the house, we may need the credit cards. We are extremely upside down on the home due to a refi 2 years ago to pay off my doctor bills. We are currently 2 months behind on the mortgage and because of this, the bank has hit our credit report which in turn caused our interest rates on our credit cards to go sky high. It seems we hit a brick wall no matter where we turn. I tried contacting an attorney at the end of last year and was told to walk away from the home because it did not make good financial sense to stay. That is how we ended up 2 months behind. That also was before the President stepped in and started these new programs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
eyesofblue210,

I understand your precarious condition.your question is well described.I will advice you to keep the bankruptcy as the last option.because it badly affects the credit score.

it is also beneficial to know the different aspects of chapter 13 and chapter 7.so you need to check out which is suitable for you.

keep in touch......
