Even an area as large as "northern virginia" varies by city/town. The best thing you can do when looking to buy a home is contact a realtor and have them pull some Comps. Comps are a list of comparable properties that have recently sold so you can see what the values are for that particular size and style house in that exact area. Hope this helps.
