We co-signed a mortgage loan for my wife's brother few years back. My brother-in-law is the primary on the loan documents. They are now stable with good earnings and be on their own. We would like to take our names out of this mortgage so it doesn't show everytime we do a credit check. How can we do this without going through refinancing, we are in King county in Washington state.

Thank you very much.

you could attempt a novation with the lender, but i'm always skeptical about that. ask them if that's a possibility, as you've nothing to lose by doing so. otherwise, refinance is the likely best method.
