I am being garnished at Workplace A. I am leaving to work at Workplace B. Because I didn't want my wages at Workplace B to be garnished, I called the collection agency with the judgment and notified them I would pay the balance. They now tell me I owe $2,600 in interest at 19.9%. What is my best course of action?

Hi fjhlad,

It would be your discretion whether or not you would like your wages to be garnished. If you cannot make the lump sum payment and pay off the collection agency, they would have the rights to garnish your wages. However, in my opinion, if you can afford to pay off the amount, it is better to do so.

Thanks

Hi Elaine,

As far as I know, in order to garnish your wages in a different state, you will have to file a judgment against you in the courts of that state. Once he gets a judgment against you, he would be able to garnish your wages.
