My soon to be wife had on of her friends boy friend start cutting our grass. He asked her if she wanted the bushes timed. She told him to give her an price and she would check with me and see if I would like him to do it our not. He never gave her a price for trimming the bushes. One day we got home and he trimmed all our bushes. The next thing I know is he is asking to get paid for doing the trimming work. He ended up sending an invoice of $350.00. That is way to high for trimming bushes. She never paid him and know she gets an certified letter in the mail that states that if he does not get paid in 10 days he is going to file an lien on the property. My question is do we really own him this money? And can he really file an lien on the property if he does not have an contract or any kind of agreement?

Hi jason!

Welcome to forums!

If there is no agreement between you and the concerned person, then he won't be able to charge you for the work. As far as lien is concerned, he will have to file a lawsuit against you in the court. However, as he does not have a written agreement, I don't think he would be able to win a judgment and place a lien on your property.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.
